Juniors

All junior members of Emsworth Slipper Sailing Club may participate in a fantastic programme of fun, confidence building sailing sessions.
Junior members may register for one of three sailing training programmes that run from April to September each year. The minimum age for registering for the training is 4/5 years amd they must be in Reception school year on 1st April in the year of registration for training.

The training sessions offered are Friday Night Oppies (FNO) and Sunday Morning Oppies (SMO), both on Emsworth Millpond and are for those who are new to sailing and/or working towards RYA Stages 1 or 2 and Sailing On-The-Tide (SOTTs) is on a Sunday for experienced sailors who have already achieved RYA Stage 2 and will sail on-the-ride from the beach. During FNO and SMO, junior members can work towards gaining their RYA Stages 1 and 2 on Emsworth Millpond, a safe and confidence boosting environment. Once sailors have achieved their RYA Stage 2 certificate they can progress over the wall to SOTTs where they will sail on the tide from the beach, working on achieving their RYA Stages 3 and 4 in a more challenging environment.

Registration for 2024 junior/youth sailing is now closed but if you would like to sign-up for this years junior sailing, please contact the Junior Coordinator using the number below.

Junior and Youth sailing for 2024 commence as follows;

Friday 19th April - Friday Night Oppies (for those working towards RYA 1 and 2)

Sunday 21st April - Sunday Morning Oppies (for those working towards RYA 1 and 2)

Sunday 28th April - Sailing on the Tide (must hold RYA Stage 2 certificate)

Volunteering is a huge part of junior and youth sailing - without you volunteering to help, we are unable to run these sessions. This may be for instructing, first aid, tuck, registering everyone in on arrival/departure, admin, boats in and out, knot tying, safety boat (kayak and rowing on the pond and PB on the tide) but also to help organise social events as these are just as important as it helps the youngsters bond, form friendships etc so please do volunteer on the registration form. Sailing experience is not necessary (unless instructing!) as you will all have skills to be able to help in some way - whether it is instructing, baking cakes for social events, planning events, playing games, teaching knots or as a first aider - any help is very much appreciated and is the heart and soul of Slipper! Please do contact me if you have any queries - I am more than happy for you to make contact if you want to chat through any of the different volunteering roles.
